Pupils from Lanesborough Pre Prep
School wearing their funky shoes and socks at the
Dunsfold Base of the Surrey Air Ambulance
Pupils from
Guildford Cathedral’s Boys Choir from Lanesborough Preparatory
School, donned their funky shoes and socks for a
visit to the Surrey Air Ambulance base at Dunsfold, near Cranleigh, to present a
cheque for £320.00 raised on the charity’s annual Funky Footwear Friday, held on
25th September this year, during Air Ambulance Week (21st
– 26th September 2009).
Over one hundred
boys, aged three to seven, took part in the day where they were encouraged to
wear crazy shoes or socks and asked to donate a pound to the Surrey Air
Ambulance Fund.
During the visit
on Friday 16th October, to the base by reception class pupils, they
were able to have their picture taken by the helicopter. They met the HEMS
(Helicopter Emergency Medical Service) crew and then watched the Air Ambulance
fly off for an emergency.
Clare Shore, Acting Head of Lanesborough Pre Prep
School said: “The boys and the thirteen staff who took part in
the day at the end of September had such a great time. We held a special
assembly to explain the work of the Air Ambulance but to then be able to visit
the base really gave the boys a fantastic insight into the emergency service -
they loved seeing the helicopter fly off. Our contribution to the charity will
help in some way – the work the charity does is superb considering it relies on
donations to keep operating.”

said: "It’s
great when so many people get behind our events and this year’s Funky Footwear
Friday proved really popular. Lanesborough Pre Prep really got into the day and
had plenty of fun, but I think it was all made even more special by their visit
to the base, especially seeing their faces as they watched the helicopter take
off on a call. We’re grateful for the support and to have the chance to help
educate youngsters about the life-saving work the charity does.”
